Stability Design:
- Assisted in the design of temporary stability columns for the load out of a mat supported self-elevating drilling unit.
- Participated in the upgrade design of the lift boat R/V Russell Peterson.
- Provided technical services for the design of a thirty person accommodation jack-up in water depths up to 25 meters.
- Delivered a cost estimate for the construction of two new offshore dredge barges.
- Studied increases in stability KG limits for the MODU Ocean Vanguard using various new stability column designs.
- A member of the design team responsible for reviewing and improving stability for the conversion designs of the MODUs Ocean Endeavor, Ocean Rover and Ocean Monarch to dynamically positioned DP 2 class.
Load Analysis:
- Analyzed wind tunnel test results for MODU's Ocean Endeavor, Ocean New Era and Ocean Ambassador. Processed numerous wind tunnel test results for use in stability calculations.
- Developed 3D analytical wind models and calculated wind loads for various vessels.
- Carried out numerous site specific mooring analyses for MODUs and ship shaped vessels.
- Developed maximum VDL nomograms for the self elevating drilling units Ocean Nugget and Ocean Summit. These nomograms present the maximum allowable VDL, over a series of elevated conditions, operating in environments below the design condition.
- Analyzed stability and barge strength for a 240x72x16' spud barge servicing the NJ Wittpenn Bridge with a Liebherr 1400 crawler crane lifting onboard. Specified crane positions for the required lifting loads so the barge list was below the crane 2 degrees inclination limit.
- Reviewed stability for a 150x54x9' spud barge with a KOBELCO 2500 crawler crane lifting onboard.
Environment and Safety:
- Delivered a ballast water management plan for the drillship Ocean Clipper including checks on stability, hull shear, and bending moments for each step of the operation of ballast exchange.
- Prepared load cases demonstrating compliance with approved stability limits for the MODU Ocean Ambassador's Marine Operations Manual.
- Configured GLM onboard loading programs for a fleet of six 29,000 BBL Fuel Tanker barges. Each loading program calculates stability using geometric models and incorporates tank gauging tables. The loading programs also check hull longitudinal strength and calculate product volumes for temperature changes.
- Developed spreadsheet based onboard loading programs for a fleet of three 22,000 BBL Fuel Tanker barges. Each loading program checks hull longitudinal strength and calculates stability using hydrostatic and tank tables.
- Delivered spreadsheet based onboard loading programs for various self-elevating drilling units and MODUs. Each loading program calculates stability using hydrostatic and tank tables.
- Consultant for a review of the onboard stability calculations in preparations for a transit of the MODU Ocean Valiant from the Gulf of Mexico to Angola.
On-Site Surveys:
- Conducted a dead weight survey for an upgraded 360x100x20' deck barge, and prepared reports for regulatory approval.
- Carried out a deadweight survey and incline test onboard a MODU offshore in search of a variable weight discrepancy. Found the weight discrepancy was due to the flooding of a horizontal brace through an internal vent pipe with a corroded opening that flooded the brace when a pontoon ballast tank was pressed full.
- Conducted a dead weight survey and incline test for the OSV M/V American Triumph, and prepared reports for regulatory approval.
- Performed deadweight surveys for the self-elevating drilling units Ocean Tower and Ocean Titan, and prepared test reports for regulatory approval.
